Cheesy Vegan Popcorn
Naturally Cheesy Vegan Popcorn: Do you remember your childhood days of hearing and smelling popcorn that made you go running into the kitchen to find out when it will be done? Well, that's not too long ago in our household. My youngest and I are the main popcorn eaters. No need to worry about chemicals, fillers, or synthetic stuff in this recipe unlike movie theaters. Our popcorn is naturally cheesy, tasty, and healthy. Sit down and catch a flick with your loved ones and friends, knowing all is well. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp Grapeseed oil use high heat burning oil/high smoke point (i.e., grapeseed, avocado)
- ⅓ cup of high-quality Popcorn kernels or use air popped popcorn
- 2-4 tbsp Vegan Butter Optional: buttery taste
- Salt to taste
- 4 tbsp Nutritional Yeast gives a cheesy flavor while being wholesome
- ½ tsp Rosemary seasoning * Optional: ground
Instructions
- Heat: Heat oil in a 3-quart thick-bottomed saucepan (i.e. dutch oven if possible) on medium-high heat. (If you are using coconut oil, let it melt completely. Put two popcorn kernels into the oil and listen for the kernels to pop.
- Add: Add the remaining 1/3 of popcorn as an even layer in the pot and place back on the burner.
- Cover: Cover pot, remove from heat for about 30 to 45 seconds. The thrill of all kernels will begin to pop at the same time, almost.
- Shake: Return pan to the heat and wait for the popcorn to start partying (popping) about the same time. Then, gently shake the pan back and forth across the burner with the lid partially hanging to let the steam out. This will help popcorn to crisp up and be drier.
- Remove: Once the popping slows to about 6 seconds apart, remove the pan from heat and pour into a large open bowl.
- Melt: Melt butter in the pan (optional) and add Nutritional Yeast and other toppings (see some of our household yummy toppings below). Serve and enjoy!
